The Greenberg Family

My first known Greenberg relatives that I know anything about were Iosel who was born in 1791 and his wife Tsivya who was born in 1793.  They lived in Lahishyn, a shtetl that was in Russia then but is now in Belarus. Their granddaughter Leya Enta (Lena) who was born in 1851 was my great great grandmother. Sadly I have no photographs of Leya Enta; all I have is her gravestone which is pictured below.  When Leya Enta was about 20 she married Khaim Wolf (Hyman) Klausner.  They and my great grandfather Meer Leyb (Meyer) moved to Pinsk, which was the closest city. In 1889 Khaim Wolf moved to New York City to join his son Meer Leyb who had emigrated a few years earlier.  And in 1892 Leya Enta and their other five children joined them.

View photographs and read the story of the trip to Pinsk and Lahishyn, Belarus, home of the Greenbergs.
